introduction
The rapid urbanization that is happening now goes hand in hand with the rapid increase in urban poverty and food insecurity. By 2020, developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America will be home to around 75% of the city’s population and eight of nine major cities which are estimated to have a population of more than 20 million.
To manage agricultural supply chain products as they move, value chain participants need a safe, transparent, trustworthy platform and market. Agro chain management builds networks among key stakeholders and improves delivery, while reducing costs and inefficiencies.
VFarm believes that urban vertical farming is the solution to the main problem above. The idea of building farms stacked vertically over skyscrapers that produce plants twice as fast, while using 40% less power, has 80% less food waste, and uses 99% less water than outdoor fields is definitely the way to front.
Why VFarm
Urban agriculture provides a complementary strategy to reduce
urban poverty and food insecurity while at the same time addressing the
issue of urban environmental management. This plays an important role in
increasing urban food security especially for
poorer segments of the population. Urban agriculture contributes greatly to
local economic development and helps reduce poverty.
Environmentally, this contributes to the greening of the city and the
productive reuse of urban waste. The growing importance
of urban agriculture is increasingly recognized by
international organizations such as UN-Habitat and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organizations)
World). A study under the FAO project found that natural
resources per head of a growing population will continue
to decline into the future and crop growth potential will become
increasingly limited unless human inventions and technology
intervene
Sistem VFarm
Proven and supported urban research technology is licensed by Agrosky Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB), vertical agriculture specialist. This system provides a layer of the DLT blockchain that records unchanged for each batch of production that allows source verification, planting, packaging and distribution.
This in turn allows ecosystem users not only to have total product traceability on food security but also to encourage social impact through a choice of information about their purchases.
The VFarm economic model is based on a Social Company (SE) in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). SE is the future of development because it is able to solve several development problems that cannot be resolved by donors or the government. This is innovation that involves behavior change and therefore needs to utilize all energy in the Base of Population (BOP).
VFarm believes that community-based ecosystems that encourage entrepreneurship, driven by high-quality content and awards and hosted on blockchain-based platforms are the solution. Although vertical farming can never be expected to replace traditional agriculture, it is possible that they must complement each other to meet future food demands.
This makes economic sense, is environmentally friendly, understands technology, and, most importantly, is sensitive to health. Vertical farming is no longer a fairy tale, now it has happened!
Solution
  • There is an urgent and urgent need to provide this sustainable mass of sustainable food. The technology that provides answers to this problem will be at the center of the $ 317 billion agricultural revolution.
  • And the answer is a high density vertical farming system that is capable of producing 360 times more square feet than conventional agriculture and is able to produce plants for food, cosmetics and medicine. This system must also be able to spread quickly to any city in the world.
  • Ecosystem users can see environmental impacts (water use, carbon footprint, nutrient use) and socio-economic inclusiveness (the impact of their purchasing decisions). VFarm aims to revolutionize urban agriculture by licensing the VFarm System module globally.
  • The VFarm system can be applied for planting, producing and distributing plants for use in food, cosmetics and medical purposes.
  • The fundamental market of VFarm Kuala Lumpur & London comes with collaboration from its stakeholders for the use of stakeholders who have A-List buildings in the Kuala Lumpur golden triangle and Central London.

UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goals related to agriculture.

Pain point
Half of the world’s population will live in the city. It will continue to be a major growth center, hoping to accommodate nearly 5 billion people by 2030. While large cities with populations of more than 10 million are likely to continue to grow in size and number, most of these increases are expected to be absorbed by less than 500,000 and middle 1 to 5 million cities.
  • Food security
  • Meeting of factors influences food security in urban areas. Urban migration is fast over 60% of the population in 2025 and labor is shrinking in the agricultural sector because the aging farm population causes a situation where only 30% of crop needs can be met by current agricultural practices. Plants play an important role in human nutrition, especially as a source of vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and phytochemicals. Low vegetable intake, in an unbalanced diet, has been estimated to cause around 31% of ischemic heart disease and 11% of strokes worldwide.
  • Environmental Problems
  • Environmental issues, such as scarcity, degradation and contamination of land, water resources and forests generated by unplanned urbanization, are the main issues. Disaster risk increases with a large number of populations that are mostly poor exposed to floods and landslides.
  • Livelihoods & Socio-Economic Gap
  • Although there is more food available throughout the year and more jobs and social services in urban areas, not everyone can benefit. More and more urban poor face daily struggles to feed their families. Poverty and unemployment are often associated with social exclusion. This means that many poor people do not have physical or economic access to adequate and safe food, or the facilities needed to store and prepare it.
  • Nutrition Welfare
  • Nutrition and people who move to cities must adopt new methods to obtain, prepare and eat food. Many city dwellers have limited time to shop and cook and they are increasingly dependent on processed foods and snacks, including street food. Poor housing, lack of sanitation and cleanliness and inadequate social services in slums increasingly add to the problem of the poor. As a result, malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, coupled with excess nutrition and the increasing problem of obesity and chronic diet related diseases can be found in most cities. This situation is further exacerbated by low physical activity.
